One thing has always been true: Your boys are your boys until a little estrogen is thrown in the mix. Of course, it isn’t hard to see why Ben gets so torn up over Rachel. Or why Domingo finds himself swooning over her. She’s nice, talented, funny, shy and sexy. Basically, she’s a fantasy. But thanks to Lake Bell, who is great this season, we connect with Rachel from her point of view, as a woman who’s lost passion and direction, and is clinging to anything different, hoping it proves instructive about what she really wants. Domingo and Ben are, in their own ways, a bit lost, and project quite a bit onto Rachel, not that she realizes. To Domingo, her affection and approval validate that he’s more than just the weed-slinging sidekick. For Ben, Rachel’s ability to move forward outside their relationship is a gauge for his own progress, even more so than the fact that Nancy wants to sell his designs and, in one scene, lick the lunch off the corner of his mouth.

Meanwhile, Cam wants Lulu's dad Felix to let him use his place for the book shoot. That means he had to strap on some spandex and literally wrestle Felix for the title, thus creating one of the most random scenes of the whole show. Still, Cam is living the life. He’s now got Lulu, he’s buddy-buddy with her artworld-icon father, and more or less kept himself clean amid the whole Rachel-Domingo scandal. When Lulu pulled away while they kissed on the couch you thought Cam would never recover from the blue balls. Thankfully, she quickly announced that they, not just he, needed to take a shower to wash off the stench of her dad. Between Ms LaLiberte and “True Blood’s” Jessica, HBO might be able to lay claim to the most beautiful crimson locks on TV. For now, Cam’s a self-made man with a pair of hot new relationships and interest in his business, and it helps the show’s energy when he’s bouncing around like a 12-year-old.

How To Make It In America S02E03

Hey, sorry, I didn't want to wake you...

You can't greet the day on tiptoe if you want to make it in America, Lake Bell, you've got to grab it by the balls! Carpe diem! Get back in bed and have sex with Kid Cudi! And then you should both get a big We-Just-Fucked brunch with eggs and hollandaise sauce and potatoes. What a difference seven days and a presumed narrative week makes. Ben and Julie finally conclude their non-relationship, Cam at last sublets his own apartment, he and Ben score a real order with Nancy Frankenburg (Gina Gershon, who appears here to stay for the season) and Rachel and Domingo hastily consummate. Oh, and you see Lake Bell’s boobs. And yes, invocations of Teri Hatcher via Seinfeld apply.

How To Make It In America S02E01

In her self-proclaimed “year of nudity,” Lake Bell‘s already landed the cover of Maxim, as well as a role in A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, an Apatow-esque end of summer film. She has just begun another season of her own show, and is also happy to be a guest on one of television's top new hits, too. The actress resumed her role as finding-her-way Rachel in the HBO comedy series "How to Make it in America" on Sunday... then two nights later, she turned up in the third episode of FOX's Tuesday ratings smash "New Girl," playing a co-worker and romantic temptation of Jess' (Zooey Deschanel) less-than-confident roommate Nick (Jake Johnson).

Still, when Elle Magazine caught up with Bell at Orgy‘s premiere recently the only thing they really wanted to know was what it’s like to have onscreen group sex with real-life buds...


The brunette beauty’s new film was certainly a bit tricky to film. “It was so embarrassing,” says Bell. “We filmed the orgy scene at the end of the shoot, so by that point we were all, like, best buddies. Then all of a sudden we have to be in pasties and nude cocksocks. I would be lying if I said there wasn’t any alcohol involved.”

So a group sex scene is as awkward to shoot as a regular sex scene?

Yes, of course. Can you imagine? Can we just think about that for a second? Imagine what it was like kissing in front of the friends you’ve hung out with for a month or two, in a location where you’ve played ‘Would You Rather…?’ and Connect Four late night and gotten drunk and whatever. Now, you’re sitting in front of them and you have to do fake sex in front of them. Doing a sex scene already is awkward as hell and doing a sex scene with someone you are friends with adds to the awkwardness. Now, add this layer: doing that sex scene with that friend of yours in front of all of your other friends while they’re doing sex scenes.

That said, the Maxim cover girl says she’s single and ready to mingle. “I am looking for a guy who makes you want to dance wand write poetry all day long,” she says. “I am very picky, though.”
