Flirting With The Affair

Showtime has to decided to act on its brief flirtation with The Affair, ordering a pilot for the drama from Sarah Treem and In Treatment creator Hagai Levi. Based on their original concept, the provocative relationship project centres on the two marriages disrupted when a father of four becomes involved with a woman mourning the loss of her child, after a chance meeting at the beach. Treem, who is also an award-winning playwright, wrote the one-hour drama, which will tell the story from the male and female perspectives. Her previous credits include Netflix's House of Cards. Levi and Treem will also exec produce The Affair alongside Shameless' Mark Mylod.

It marks Showtime's third order for the upcoming season. The pay cabler previously announced a pilot order for Paul Attanasio’s The Vatican, directed by Ridley Scott and a series order for John Logan/Sam Mendes’ Penny Dreadful. This latest pickup comes as the network is preparing to launch celebrity fixer drama Ray Donovan and later, Masters of Sex, as it considers the future of Dexter beyond next season.
